Time Bank

A Time Bank is a community-based system that empowers individuals to exchange services using time as a currency. Instead of traditional money, members of a Time Bank trade services based on the time spent providing a service.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Earning Time Credits: When you provide a service to another member of the Time Bank, you earn time credits. The value of the service is based solely on the time spent, not on the type of service. For example, an hour of gardening earns the same time credit as an hour of home repair.

  2. Spending Time Credits: You can then use these time credits to ‘purchase’ services from other members. Again, the cost of a service is based on the time it takes, not on the type of service.

  3. Equality: This system promotes equality, as everyone’s time is valued equally. It also fosters community spirit and mutual aid.

In terms of bartering, the Time Bank is a structured and fair system that manages the exchange of services. It ensures that all services are valued based on time, promoting fairness and equality. It also provides a clear record of transactions, making the bartering process transparent and easy to manage. Check out our Events page to easily review project offerings from the Time Bank.
